Default Gore Range

One of Colorado's most rugged ranges lies northeast of Vail.

Default Surprise Lake

My friend Mark and I packed in to Surprise Lake on June 4 of '06. We dropped packs at surprise and continued on to Upper Cataract Lake. Post holing and brand new boots made it a bit of a grueling trip. This is the marshy outlet of Surprise Lake shortly after dawn.

Nice image, Randy! The Gores are on the top of my list for backpacking this summer!

Cool shot Randy. I'd love to be sitting there right now!

I have just barely scratched the surface of the Gores I'm afraid. I did a great hike up to Pitkin Lake about 15 years ago, and it was amazing! Then about 3 years ago, a buddy and I did a dayhike in towards Peak "C". Long day, and on the way back out past Piney Lake, was were blessed with an awesome sunset. This image is from that night.

Thanks for the comments guys. Scott, good luck with your trip to the Gores. Brent, that is an awesome shot from Piney Lake, that is on my list this year as well. There is an awesome view of the Gores from Ute Pass between Silverthorne and Green Mountain Reservoir on HWY 9.

Nice shots guys! I have not explored the Gore Range as much as I would like, but hope to change that.

Here's one from a couple of years ago.

Brent, you Piney Lake shot is a classic!

Here's a few of my favorites from the Gore Range, one of my favorite of Colorado's ranges.

Here are a few shots I got last year up there. The first 3 are on the east side of the range and the last 3 are on the west side.
